I started Southern Soil nearly seven years ago, because as a consumer, I wanted one central location for finding out about local food grown with sustainability, regeneration and humane treatment of animals at the forefront.
I wanted a place where I could learn about farms and restaurants that were providing the kind of food that I wanted to eat and that were near enough for me to visit and patronize. No such single source existed, and so I set out to create one!
For five years, Southern Soil diligently told the stories of our local food systems here in Southeast Georgia. We published 25 issues of our digital magazine and 26 podcast episodes. We were honored to promote and celebrate the small farms and businesses that make our local food system possible.
In 2023, things in my personal life came to a point where I needed to step away from Southern Soil. But my love for local food and the people who make it possible has never faded. In fact, my firm belief that we must work hard to build robust local food communities has only been further confirmed with each passing year!
To that end, I am very pleased to announce that Southern Soil is back!
We are excited to not only tell the stories of our local food, but also to engage with our communities as we encourage, promote and celebrate our local food systems. So, please join us at the table … pull up a chair and join the conversation!
Sincerely,
LeeAnna Tatum, Founder/Publisher
